Does Astrology Explain the Origin of the Earth, the Planetary System, and Humanity?

When most people think of astrology, they think of predicting the future—marriage, career, wealth, and health. Yet, if you open the oldest classical texts of Vedic Astrology (Jyotish), you discover something extraordinary: before the ancient Maharishis taught how to read a birth chart, they first explained how the Universe, our Solar System, the Earth, and Human Life were created.

Why? Because unless you understand how the cosmos and humanity came from the exact same source, you cannot understand why a planet moving millions of miles away in space can shape your thoughts, your body, and your destiny on Earth.

Here is how the science of astrology explains the origin of our planetary system, the Earth, and human life—supported by the original Sanskrit verses of the ancient seers.

1. The Origin of the Universe and the Planetary System (The Nebular & Solar Genesis)

Modern astrophysics tells us that our solar system formed billions of years ago from a spinning, super-heated cloud of cosmic gas and dust (a solar nebula) that cooled and condensed into the Sun and the planets. Long before modern telescopes existed, astrological science stated this exact reality:

An Infinite Multiverse of Solar Systems: Astrological cosmology begins with the recognition that the Universe contains an infinite number of solar systems, many far larger than our own, all governed by a single Supreme Creative Power. However, not every star in the night sky breeds biological life—only those stars that house a conscious astral/causal solar intelligence (Adityas) have the potential to nurture living worlds.

Birth of the Planets from the Sun: In our own solar system, the Sun (Surya) is the leader of the planets and the primary physical cause of creation. The entire solar system was originally a single vast, heated nebulous mass which, as it cooled down, threw off huge portions of matter that condensed into planets or worlds, forming a complete planetary family revolving around the Sun.

Why This Proves Astrology: Because the Earth, the other planets, and every living creature on Earth were born out of the exact same solar nebulous mass, the entire solar system is a single unified organism. The fundamental laws and electromagnetic vibrations operating among the major parts of that system (the planets) operate with equal force upon its smaller parts—human beings, animals, plants, and minerals.

2. The Origin of Life on Earth & The Pleiades (Krittika) Connection

How did biological life and humanity begin on Earth once the planet cooled? Astrological texts point to three cosmic mechanisms working together:

The Shiva-Shakti (Sun-Moon) Life Engine: In astrology, the Sun and the Moon are the "Forces of the Creator" representing the cosmic male and female principles (Shiva-Shakti / Fire and Water). The Sun acts as the dispenser of raw cosmic life-energy, the Moon receives this solar life-energy and acts as the "Mixer" that converts it into the biological birth of species on Earth, and the Ascendant (Lagna)—the degree of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth—acts as the catalytic agent that locks that energy into a physical body.

The Krittika (Pleiades) Matrix of Earthly Evolution: Ancient astrological texts point toward a direct link between the star cluster Pleiades (Krittika Nakshatra) and the evolution of life on Earth. Bridging fiery Aries and earthy Taurus (which represents the fertile Earth itself), Krittika serves as the feminine nourishing matrix of earthly life—which is why the life-giving Moon is exalted in the very first degrees of Taurus.

The Descending of Souls (Jeevatmas) Through the Planets: According to Maharishi Parashara, human beings are not mere chemical accidents. The Supreme Lord (Vishnu) manifested the cosmos and placed His divine power into the planets (Grahas). Individual souls (Jeevatma portions) emanate from the planets, take birth in human bodies on Earth to experience the fruits of their actions (Karmas), and ultimately merge back into the planetary and divine source at the time of cosmic dissolution.

3. How Human Bodies Are Constructed: The 5 Elements (Pancha Bhutas) & Planetary Time

Why are some babies born male and others female? Why are human beings born only at specific moments, while animals, birds, or plants are born at others?

Astrology explains that Nature (Prakriti) constructs all physical bodies out of Five Cosmic Elements (Pancha Mahabhutas / Tatwas) and Three Qualities (Gunas—Sattwik, Rajasik, and Tamasik), each governed by specific planets:

  • Agni / Tejo Tatwa (Fire — Physical Heat, Vitality & Evolution): Governed by the Sun and Mars (ruling Sunday and Tuesday).
  • Jala Tatwa (Water — Blood, Fluids, Emotion & Compassion): Governed by the Moon and Venus (ruling Monday and Friday).
  • Prithvi Tatwa (Earth — Solid Matter, Skin & Mathematical Proportion): Governed by Mercury (ruling Wednesday).
  • Akasha Tatwa (Ether/Space — Brain, Wisdom & Universal Harmony): Governed by Jupiter (ruling Thursday).
  • Vayu Tatwa (Air — Breath, Nervous System, Time & Life Principle): Governed by Saturn (ruling Saturday).

Time itself flows in strict elemental waves after sunrise each day. No living species can exist without connection to these five elements, and it is the exact proportion of these planetary Tatwas and Gunas operating at the moment of conception (Adhana Lagna) and birth (Janma Lagna) that determines whether a birth is human, male or female, and what physical and mental constitution the child will possess.

4. Four Classical Sanskrit Verses (Shlokas) Solidifying the Astrological Origin of Creation

Here are four foundational Sanskrit verses from the classical scriptures that codify the origin of the universe, the fourfold classification of living beings, the elemental birth of humans, and the planetary administration of the cosmos:

Verse 1: How Cosmic Time (Kala) and the Three Gunas Created All Living Species

(From Maharishi Parashara’s Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Chapter 77, Shlokas 21–22)

Evaṃ guṇavaśādeva kālabhedaḥ prajāyate | Jātibhedastu tadbhedājjāyate'tra carācare || 21 || Evaṃ bhagavatā sṛṣṭaṃ vibhunā svaguṇaiḥ samam | Caturvidhena kālena jagadetaccaturvidham || 22 ||

Meaning: "Thus, through the varying proportions of the cosmic attributes (Gunas), divisions of Time (Kala) are born; and from those divisions of Time arise the distinct species of all moving (sentient/human/animal) and non-moving (plant/mineral) beings in this universe. In this way, the all-pervading Supreme Lord, through fourfold Time and in consonance with His own attributes, created this entire fourfold universe."

Verse 2: How the Five Planetary Elements (Pancha Tatwas) Govern Sunrise, Time, and Human Birth

(From Tatwa / Antar-Tatwa Siddhanta)

Avalambyāgnibhūvyomajalavāyvadhipāḥ khagāḥ | Kramādarkodaye vāre sa svakālapravartakaḥ || 1 || Parivṛttidvayaṃ yāme pratipraharamīdṛśam | Strījanma jalavāyvoḥ syāt bhūnabho'gniṣu puṃjanmā || 3 || Etena ghaṭikājñānaṃ tena lagnaṃ vinirdiśet || 4 ||

Meaning: "Taking support of the five cosmic elements—Fire (Agni), Earth (Bhu), Ether (Vyoma/Akasha), Water (Jala), and Air (Vayu)—the ruling planets initiate their respective time-cycles in strict mathematical order from Sunrise on each weekday. Cycling twice in every three-hour watch (Yama), the Water and Air element windows (ruled by Moon, Venus, and Saturn) govern female human births, while the Earth, Ether, and Fire element windows (ruled by Mercury, Jupiter, Sun, and Mars) govern male human births. By this exact elemental clock of time (Ghatika), the Ascendant (Lagna) of human birth is established."

Verse 3: How the Planets Distinguish Stars from Moving Worlds in the Zodiac

(From Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Chapter 3, Shlokas 2–6)

Śṛṇu vipra ! pravakṣyāmi bhagrahāṇāṃ paristhitim | Ākāśe yāni dṛśyante jyotirbimbānyanekaśaḥ || 2 || Teṣu nakṣatrasaṃjñāni grahasaṃjñāni kānicit | Tāni nakṣatranāmāni sthirasthānāni yāni vai || 3 || Gacchanto bhāni gṛhṇanti ye te grahaṇād grahāḥ smṛtāḥ || 4 ||

Meaning: "O Brahmin! Listen to the astronomical placement of the stars and planets. Among the countless luminous bodies visible in the heavens, those that occupy fixed positions are called Nakshatras (constellations/stars, 27 in number beginning with Ashwini), while those that move through the zodiac signs (Rashis, 12 in number beginning with Aries) and 'seize' or influence living beings by their cosmic pull are called Grahas (Planets, headed by the Sun). From the rising Ascendant (Lagna) and the movements of these planets, the rise and fall of human life are known."

Verse 4: The Planets as the Cosmic Administrators of Creation, Destruction & Human Destiny

(From Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Chapter 84, Shloka 27)

मानवानां ग्रहाधीना उच्छ्रायाः पतनानि च । भावाऽभावौ च जगतां तस्मात् पूज्यतमा ग्रहाः ॥ २७ ॥
Mānavānāṃ grahādhīnā ucchrāyāḥ patanāni ca | Bhāvā'bhāvau ca jagatāṃ tasmāt pūjyatamā grahāḥ || 27 ||

Meaning: "The elevation, progress, and downfall of human beings, as well as the very creation (existence) and destruction (dissolution) of the worlds in the universe, are all under the administration and authority of the planets (Grahas). Therefore, the planets are most venerable."

Summary: Why You Are a Living Microcosm of the Universe

Astrology teaches us one humbling yet empowering truth: you are not separate from the cosmos. Your physical bones carry the solar fire of the Sun; your blood and mind ebb and flow with the water of the Moon; your nervous system runs on the airy currents of Saturn and Mercury; and your soul's wisdom reflects the ether of Jupiter. Because the Earth, the planets, and humanity were forged from the same cosmic womb, reading your astrological chart is simply reading the original blueprint of creation written inside you.
